History of Skippy

What has made Skippy so popular? Skippy peanut butter is known for its awesome taste, sumptuous texture and mouth-watering aroma. Skippy peanut butter has been around for as far back as people are able to remember. So many Americans grew up with it when they were children, and they have passed on that tradition to their own children and grandchildren. Whether you want to have a good old-fashioned peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a no-bake bar or a cake with sumptuous peanut butter frosting, you simply can’t go wrong with Skippy. Skippy definitely has a proud, far-reaching legacy. Just how did Skippy get its start?
It all began with a man who lived during the first half of the 20th century, and he went by the name of Joseph Rosefield. Joseph Rosefield worked in California state as a very devoted food entrepreneur. He was a very innovative man for his time. In the year of 1923, Rosefield was the first person to produce a modern form of peanut butter that had the oil separated from the butter as a perfect blend. Up until that point, no one had come up with a solution of peanut butter that kept the oil and peanut grit together in a smooth blend. In 1933, Joseph Rosefield created a family-run company that he called the Rosefield Packing Company. The Rosefield Packing Company was located in a town called Alameda. It was here in Almeda that Joseph’s company began to acquire extensive recognition and trust in the public eye for its quality service and food. It was within the same year that his company began in which Rosefield also patented the brand of peanut butter that we all know and love so much today.
Countrywide Sales
Joseph sold his peanut butter in forty-eight states throughout the country, and his product quickly gained a strong hold on the food industry as being one of the most trusted, popular brand names and also one of the most commonly found foods in households across America. The Skippy food corporation gained even greater recognition during World War II when they shipped emergency supplies of peanut butter to Hawaii. Only two years after selling his creamy, delicious product, Rosefield’s company created the very first wide mouth jar. This invention launched the Skippy brand name to even greater heights of success in America. However, as popular as Skippy peanut butter was, it was never an officially registered corporation until the year of 1948 – nearly fifteen years after the company had been introduced to the food market. In 1955, the Rosefield family sold their business to the Best Foods company. Today the Skippy company runs stronger than ever, selling over 90,000,000 jars a year.
