What are Krispy Creme Doughnuts?
When most people hear the phrase “fast food,” some of their thoughts generally travel towards the familiar sorts of varieties such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, so on and so forth. However, there is one particular fast food variety that nobody should forget; one sweet treat is always welcome, and those are the glazed donuts that are unmistakably by the increasingly popular Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
History of Krispy Kreme
Founded in 1933 by Vernon Rudolph, this particular chain of restaurant has only seen success in its time. Back in the day, Rudolph worked for his uncle, who was the sole owner of a secret recipe of yeast raised doughnuts, for which he had purchased. With this recipe in hand, Rudolph set out to make these unique doughnuts and sell them in Paducah, Kentucky, though it was later moved over to Nashville, Tennessee. Charlotte Pike was the location of the first, and currently still famous, Krispy Kreme building.
By the time the 1960s rolled around, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts had seen its fair share of customers throughout the southeastern United States of America and subsequently attempted expanding outside, though with not as much success as they desired. The popular locations of Krispy Kreme all remain in the southeastern United States due to failures to expand too far.
Problems with Expansion
For example, Krispy Kreme attempted locating in New England, but its citizens slowly migrated back to Dunkin Donuts. In Arizona and New Mexico, all six locations saw its doors close as their franchisee ended up filing for bankruptcy in 2006. A Texas store failed due to the residents being loyal to a local doughnut shop in Amarillo. California stores were closed due to the franchisee’s bankruptcy. Pennsylvania failed because the local convenience store decided to stop purchasing their doughnuts for sale and instead opened their own kitchen; the owner of this store promptly decided to close without warning.
Krispy Kreme is relatively unique in its choice of food, with only a few competitors to call so, such as Dunkin Donuts and Tim Horton’s. One thing that they do different, however, is serve their glazed doughnuts warm and very often sell boxed doughnuts for purchase in supermarkets and large retailers, such as Super Wal-Marts and Super Targets.
